National Junior Honor Society

Saint Stanislaus Kostka School has established a National Junior Honor Society Chapter.  The National Junior Honor Society is an organization that recognizes students who demonstrate scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character.  The NJHS advisors are Miss Bildhauser and Mrs. Huhnke.  For NJHS, the grade levels are second semester sixth grade IMG_7892 (1) (800x533)through eighth grade. Students need to meet the attendance and scholastic requirements of a 3.5 grade point average to receive an invitation to complete the NJHS application.  The application, once submitted, will be evaluated by the faculty council.  Students who are inducted into this organization must continue to strive for excellence in academics and continue to be role models.

Membership is more than an honor. It is an ongoing responsibility and an obligation to continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that resulted in the students’ selection.  Students who become members of this organization will need to attend meetings and also participate in a variety of service projects.

 Spelling Bee

Saint Stanislaus Kostka is one of many local Catholic Schools in Northwest Indiana to participate in the Catholic Youth Organization Spelling Bee. The contest is open to all of our Catholic schools and is strictly for fun and practice. There is no advancement to a higher lDSC_0055evel of competition. The Saint Stanislaus Kostka Spelling Bee is organized and put on by teachers Miss Sara Rusboldt and Mrs. Missi Huhnke.

First, a “spell down elimination” in each classroom is used to find the top two spellers in each grade.  Then, those two students move on to the all-school Spelling Bee contest, where another “spell-down elimination” is held. There are three separate rounds: 3rd/4th grade combined, 5th/6th grade combined, and 7th/8th grade combined. For this “spell-down,” parents, teachers, and students gather in the gym to cheer on the spellers until there is a finalist and an alternate from each round. The top spellers move on to represent our school at the CYO Spelling Bee in Crown Point. All finalists will receive a CYO Spelling Bee medal. The top winner in the final 3/4th, 5/6th, and 7/8th grade competition will receive a 1st place CYO Spelling Bee trophy.

The 2017 CYO Annual Spelling Bee will be on Thursday, February 16th
at St. Mary Crown Point with a start time of 5:30 P.M.

Duneland Area Community Band

Saint Stanislaus is proud to partner with the Duneland Area Community Band program. We encourage all interested students to explore the opportunities available with the DAC Band. Learning to play an instrument has proven countless benefits both inside the classroom and out; it’s also just plain fun!

Any student entering or currently in grades four through eight is welcome to join the Duneland Area Community Band Program. The different performance levels of the program allow for a variety in the ages of the participants. What each student needs most is the desire to learn, work with others, and the readiness to have fun and make
